TV Cord Concealment in NYC
TV Cord Concealment in NYC
A lot of people end up in this situation. The TV went up — maybe you mounted it yourself, maybe a building super did it, maybe the previous tenant left it there — and the cords are still hanging down the wall. The mount is fine. The TV is in the right spot. You just never got around to dealing with the cords.
PPM offers cord concealment as a standalone service. You do not need a new mounting appointment. We come out, assess what is there, and handle the wire management.
Your Options
In-wall routing is the cleanest result. Two wall plates — one behind the TV, one near the outlet below — allow the cables to run inside the wall with nothing visible on the surface. This works in drywall and plaster walls over wood studs, where there is an open cavity between the two plate locations. It does not work in metal stud walls or walls with insulation or fire blocking between the two points.
Paintable cable raceways are the solution when in-wall routing is not possible. A raceway is a surface-mounted channel that runs from the TV down the wall to the outlet location. It adheres to the wall, fits all the cables inside, and can be painted to closely match your wall color. Properly done, raceways are far less noticeable than bare cords.
Furniture routing works in some setups where the TV is over a media console or entertainment unit. Cords can be routed behind or through the furniture to reach the power strip or outlet at the base. This depends heavily on the furniture layout and is not always tidy, but it is an option when the other approaches do not fit.
Why DIY Cord Hiding Often Goes Wrong
The two most common DIY cord problems we see: using the wrong size raceway (either too small to fit all the cables, or so large it looks worse than the cords) and installing it crooked. A raceway that runs at a slight diagonal or has uneven gaps from the wall edge is more visually distracting than loose cords.
In-wall routing done wrong is a bigger issue. Using a regular extension cord or non-rated cable inside the wall is a fire hazard and a code violation. The power cable run inside the wall has to be an in-wall rated cable. If whoever ran your cords in-wall used a standard extension cord, that needs to be corrected.
Standalone Service
A cord concealment appointment runs about 30 to 60 minutes for a standard in-wall job and slightly less for a raceway install. PPM assesses the wall on arrival, confirms which approach makes sense for your space, and handles it.
If you are also doing a new TV mounting appointment, cord concealment is bundled into that visit. If the TV is already up and it is just the cords, this standalone appointment is the right booking.
