The mirror leaning against your wall since move-in is not a design choice

We both know that. It is there because mirrors are heavy, NYC walls are weird, and the box came with four screws that would not hold a calendar. People try adhesive strips first. Strips hold a mirror for about two weeks. We know, because week three is when our phone rings.

Here is what you get instead: an installer who brings the right anchors for your actual wall, checks for level twice, and vacuums the dust before you notice it.

What our customers say about mirror hanging

“Isaac was great. He hung up a super heavy mirror so fast and had professional grade anchors of his own he used instead of the ones that came with the mirror which I really appreciated as someone who has very little home improvement knowledge. Most importantly I felt very safe and comfortable with him in my apartment!”

Priya Desai, Google review

“Isaac was on time, prepared and hung two heavy mirrors with no problem. He was respectful, had great suggestions and cleaned up when done. Highly recommend!”

Joanne Kroeger, Google review

“I’d tried mounting my mirror and a floating box shelf myself and spent an embarrassingly long time on it before finally giving up and calling in a professional. Isaac was in and out in no time! Other companies in the area quoted me an outrageous cost for the same job.”

Kasey, Park Slope, Google review

“HUGE thanks to Isaac for hanging a full-length mirror for me and kindly re-hanging a hand towel hook that had to be moved in the process. Isaac was very responsive and here within a day of reaching out.”

What’s included when we hang your mirror

  • A real look at your wall first. We knock, we check for studs, and we tell you what it is before anything gets drilled.
  • Anchors rated far above the mirror’s weight, or a stud when there is one where you want it. Heavy and oversized mirrors go on a French cleat or two-point hardware so they sit flat against the wall and stay level.
  • You approve the exact spot. We hold it up, you look, then we drill. Change your mind later? We re-hang at no cost.
  • Level checked, hardware tested, dust vacuumed. We bring the vacuum.
  • Hooks, towel bars or sconces next to the mirror can go up in the same visit as extra pieces.

Plaster, brick, drywall: how we hang heavy mirrors on NYC walls

Most NYC apartments built before the 1960s have plaster and lath, which cracks and crumbles if you drill it like drywall. We start with a small bit and step up gradually, so the hole stays clean and the anchor bites. Plaster is thicker than drywall, so once the anchor is set it actually holds better.

Brick and concrete get masonry anchors. Drywall and metal studs get toggles or stud screws depending on the weight. The heaviest piece we have ever hung was a mirror on plaster, about 8 feet by 5 feet with a thick wood frame and thick glass, likely over 150 pounds. It is still up.

Picture-rail molding in old buildings looks handy, but it is hard to tell what is actually secure up there. A regular wall install holds more and we recommend it every time. More on old walls in how to hang art on plaster walls in a NYC apartment.

Mirror jobs we’ve done

  • Nursery mirror and sconces, Brooklyn. An arched mirror and two wall sconces above a nursery dresser, with the crib in the same room. Anchors rated far above the mirror’s weight, set behind the dresser line so the fixings are hidden, sconces centered at matching heights. See the nursery mirror job.
  • The 150-pound plaster mirror. About 8 by 5 feet, thick wood frame, thick glass, on a plaster wall. Stepped drilling, heavy-duty anchors, two people. Still exactly where we left it.
  • Mirror plus floating box shelf, Park Slope. The job Kasey describes above: a mirror the owner had fought with for an afternoon, plus a floating shelf, done in one short visit. Shelves have their own page at shelving installation NYC.

Mirror hanging questions

How much does it cost to hang a mirror in NYC?

$175 flat for 1 to 3 pieces, and a mirror counts as one piece no matter how heavy. Hardware, anchors and the level check are included. Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island add a $100 travel fee.

Can you hang a heavy or full-length mirror?

Yes. Heavy and oversized mirrors go on a French cleat or two-point hardware into studs or anchors rated well above the weight. The heaviest so far was over 150 pounds on plaster, and it is still up.

Can you hang a mirror on plaster or brick?

Yes. Plaster gets stepped drilling and anchors sized for it, brick and concrete get masonry anchors, drywall gets toggles or a stud. We hang on plaster, lath, brick, concrete, drywall and metal studs.

How soon can you come?

Often same or next day in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Book online and we confirm a time.

What if I don’t like where it’s hung?

You approve every spot before we drill, and if you change your mind afterwards we re-hang it at no cost.

My building needs a certificate of insurance. Can you provide one?

Yes. Send us your building’s sample and we usually have the COI issued the same day. Details on the COI page.

Do you need me to buy anchors or hardware?

No. We bring mounts, anchors, hardware, levels and a vacuum. If your mirror came with its own hardware we will look at it, and we will usually use ours instead.

Do you hang frameless mirrors or mirrors on tile?

Yes. Frameless mirrors go up on clip or J-channel hardware rated for the glass, and on tile we drill the grout line or use a glass-and-tile bit so nothing cracks. Count each mirror as one piece at the normal rate.

Where we hang mirrors
