Queens Wall Types: What We Encounter

Queens has a wide range of building types, and the walls inside them reflect that. Older attached homes and prewar apartment buildings in Astoria, Jackson Heights, and Forest Hills often have original plaster walls. Plaster requires different anchors than drywall and different technique to drill into safely. We carry the right hardware for plaster on every job and know how to find studs through it without damaging the surface.

Some older buildings throughout the borough also have brick interior walls, particularly in converted industrial spaces or ground-floor units. Brick requires masonry anchors and a hammer drill, both of which we keep on the truck.

Long Island City has seen significant new construction over the past decade, and those high-rises are built with modern drywall and metal studs. These jobs are more straightforward, but we still assess each wall before we put anything in it. Metal studs need specific toggle anchors to hold a TV safely, and we verify placement before we start drilling.

COI Requirements in Queens Buildings

COI requirements in Queens are less universal than in Manhattan, but they’re becoming more common as condo development has expanded across Long Island City and Astoria. Many LIC condo buildings now require a Certificate of Insurance before contractors can work inside. If your building needs one, we can provide it within one to two business days.
