Oversized Print Above the Sofa

Oversized Print Above the Sofa

Before: blank living room wall with painter's tape marking where an oversized print will hang
Before
After: oversized black and white framed print mounted above a white sofa in a NYC apartment
After

One oversized black-and-white photograph, framed and glazed, going above a white sofa. Big single pieces are unforgiving: an inch off center or a hair out of level is obvious from across the room, and there is no second frame to hide behind.

We taped the full outline of the frame on the wall first so the client could stand back and approve the height and centering before a single hole was drilled. The tape is what you see in the before shot. Once the placement was signed off, we located the studs, set two-point hardware rated well above the weight of the piece, and hung it dead level on the marks. Two-point hanging is what keeps a wide frame from drifting off level every time someone bumps the sofa.

Total time on site was under an hour, with the wall patched where the tape had been and nothing left behind but the print.
